Summary

The Financial Analyst II participates in a variety of financial analysis, corporate finance and treasury projects or functions including cash position forecasting, liquidity management, evaluation and implementation of cash management products and services, accounting support for finance functions, management of banking relationships, covenant compliance, and cash forecasting.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of financial analysis functions including assisting with debt covenant compliance, researching incoming cash transactions, posting of Treasury transactions, providing system reports to accounting, updating payment schedules, corporate finance, key financial metric reporting, and cash forecasting.

Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, economics, engineering, information technology, mathematics or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved, plus a minimum two (2) years directly related experience in treasury, financial analysis, accounting, economic analysis or data analytics in any industry
- OR degree and a minimum two (2) years business operations related experience in the utility or energy services industry
- In lieu of degree, an equivalent combination of formal education and experience totally six (6) years is required. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) desirable. Strong research, data management and effective communication skills a must. Knowledge of Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.) and database tools.
- Knowledge of finance and economic analysis, utility operations, corporate finance, utility regulation.
- Travel may be required.

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
- MBA or Masters degree preferred.
- Working knowledge of related analytical, financial, database, and/or business operations tools (i.e., Kyriba, Bloomberg, PeopleSoft, Cognos, PowerPlant, Hyperion).
- Directly related experience in the utility or energy services industry.

Major Accountabilities

1) Performs routine corporate financial tasks such as day-to-day treasury work process, level financial, sales, and peak load forecasting, as budgeting, accruals, variance analysis, and short and long-term forecasting for the business units, working under limited supervision.

2) Collaborate with department staff in the evaluation of financial business scenarios. Develop ad hoc models to support unique scenarios or limited scope analysis with the various work streams O&M, Capital, corporate finance, sales and revenue forecasting, tax planning, regulatory, and accounting. Provide support in the formulation of model inputs and processing of data through financial models.

3) Supports the monthly accounting close process by performing accruals and variance analysis, and preparation of variance explanations and communication to management. Ensures financial events and transactions are reported to Accounting for proper financial statement recording and accounting treatment.

4) Partners in administering department programs/plans by maintaining knowledge of each and preparing ongoing analyses of specific topics.

5) Ensures compliance by maintaining appropriate documentation, files, records, systems, or desk procedures.

6) Participates in the development of limited scope financial and operational decision support and business unit planning projects and initiatives. Advises mid-level business leadership on financial performance and priorities.

7) Provide support in the development, compilation, presentation and communication of performance of monthly financial report packages for management reporting including identification of significant findings and conclusions through the use of existing technology and strong understanding of business unit financial and operations related data.

8) Maintains Develop knowledge of the primary emerging issues facing the industry and company business specifics.

9) Develops general knowledge of company, business policies and procedures, accounting practices, and federal state regulations.

10) Assists in identifying continuous improvement opportunities within the organization and incorporate continuous improvement principles and practices into business partnerships.

Flex Role:
This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work. Employees will have two options to choose from: 

  • APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.
  • Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.
