Department Overview

The group concentrates on the following mission-critical communications technologies at all levels of complexity (i.e. from small municipal systems to large metropolitan and state-wide solutions):

  • Public safety grade mobile voice and data networks
  • Advanced mobile devices
  • Public safety mobile broadband networks and devices (LTE)
  • Integrated command and control (9-1-1 Dispatch Consoles, Advanced Video Surveillance)
  • Enterprise and Public Safety Wireless LAN/WAN (802.11, Mesh, CBRS)

The work we do is meaningful, impactful, and leading-edge. You will be part of a dynamic, cross-functional client-facing team including sales, system integrators, product engineers, third-party vendors, program managers, and senior systems engineers – often on large highly-visible, multi-million dollar engagements

Responsibilities:

The Systems Engineer will take responsibility for and oversee all technical aspects of assigned project from award until system acceptance.

  • Develops, designs, evaluates, and/or modifies systems consistent with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Develops system architecture, and ensures the integrity of the architecture/design.
  • Systems Engineers handle the software configuration to make sure everything works given the various customer configurations.
  • The successful candidate will be able to perform the Engineer of Record role on mid sized projects autonomously.
  • Public safety radio network projects are multi-faceted requiring a wide range of technical skillsets including, but not limited to, coverage and capacity design, microwave system analysis, RF LMR system and BDA design, WAN network design, and knowledge of Motorola ASTRO systems.
  • The position involves a high level of customer and consultant interaction involving customer design reviews, customer witnessed staging and acceptance testing events, coverage acceptance testing, live system upgrades, and troubleshooting efforts.
  • The position requires high level of commitment and accountability to project and customer demands as well as ownership of technical solutions, problem solving and project timelines.
  • The successful candidate will work closely with Project Management teams, Engineering teams and the customer to ensure successful project execution. 

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical, System, or Computer Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline and 3+ years of engineering experience OR a Master's Degree with 1+ years of engineering experience
  • OR 5+ years of electrical, systems, or computer engineering experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge in radio communication systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless or broadband/LTE
  • Experience, good understanding, and working knowledge in IP networking, network design methodologies & troubleshooting (Ethernet, TCP/IP, L2/L3, MPLS)
  • Certifications through CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA or similar
  • Experience directly working with end-user customers is desirable
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to present complex topics to nontechnical audiences.
  • Self motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment

 Additional Desired Skills:

  • Previous knowledge and experience working with Juniper, Aviat, Cisco, Nokia/Alcatel, Xtreme, Ceragon
  • Experience with switching and routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, iBGP, eBGP, M-BGP, MPLS RSVPTE, and LDP)
  • Experience/knowledge in line of sight microwave propagation
