Director of Finance: half time job

Job Description

Mountain View Presbyterian Church is seeking a half-time professional to be our Director of Finance. This is a newly created position for our growing church that will be aided by our Financial Assistant.

We are a diverse family and a vibrant community of faith. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we strive to be serious about God and the great Christian tradition that we have inherited. This is especially true in our worship services where God’s word is proclaimed and music is sung all to the glory of God with plenty of joy and laughter thrown in. Jesus Christ is our center and his grace holds us together as a diverse body with different backgrounds and traditions.

There are about 1,500 members of this church, and the demographics are pretty even. We have many young families and a vibrant youth and children’s ministry; we also have many retired folks – and pretty much everything in between. We are a diverse body that loves to worship and serve together in many different and unique ways. Often we gather together in small groups for study and prayer and many members are engaged in mission projects both local and globally.

The Director of Finance is a hands-on role that will report to the senior pastor and session through the finance team. The key responsibilities of the position will be:

· Pledges and Contributions activity

· Payroll activity

· Accounts Payables and Receivables transactions

· Banking activity

· Reports using GAAP

Skills & Responsibilities

· Minimum a bachelor’s degree in business administration/accounting or equivalent experience; CPA preferred

· Experience in church or non-profit accounting, pledging/contributions, financial reporting, and payroll processing related software. (Preferred but not mandatory)

· Exhibits a high level of attention for detail and accuracy

· High level of proficiency with accounting software applications (GAAP) and also with MS Office applications (Excel and Word)

· Shows self-motivation with professional demeanor and presence, positive attitude, and strong work ethic

· Is highly organized, with ability to manage multiple tasks to completion

· Exhibits excellent inter-personal and communication skills

· Can practice strict discretion and maintain a high level of confidentially

· Able to interact effectively and positively around finance/stewardship issues with people possessing varying levels of related knowledge

· Agrees to comply with the church’s policies on harassment, child protection, and sexual misconduct

· Must be able to obtain DPS fingerprint clearance.

Qualified candidates will be committed to Christian values however, a non-member of this church is desired due to confidentiality issues.

Salary Details

We believe at least a 25 hour a week commitment would be needed to fulfill the requirements of the job. The office is open Monday – Friday 8a-5p and the hours are somewhat flexible.
