Job Description
Overall Purpose
This position assists in creating processes and perform tasks needed to maintain the overall integrity and reliability of Linux, Windows, VMware, and storage systems. Meets long-term requirements of the Systems and Network teams.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for the administration, installation, configuration and maintenance of any of the following operating systems, Linux/UNIX, Windows, and VMware operating systems on physical servers and virtual environments.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware related server problems (failed disks, network cards, CPU, memory, etc.).
- Support existing server infrastructure in an on-call capacity as part of a team rotation.
- Implement defined changes to existing hardware and operating system infrastructure including patches, users, file systems and kernel parameters.
- Troubleshoot hardware and operating system problems and suggest possible performance tuning.
- Maintain and update operating system versions and toolsets to improve security and stability.
- Support the implementation of new technologies to continually simplify the environment while improving security and performance.
- Interact with multiple internal customers and external vendors and partners to provide quality customer service.
- Comply with all security policies and procedures, to ensure that the highest level of system and data confidentiality, integrity and availability are maintained.
Skills & Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
- Education or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Systems Administrator in a medium to large scale enterprise environment.
- Operational experience with a multi-domain Active Directory environment.
- Knowledge of data encryption methods and practices.
- Experience with the latest version of RedHat Linux or Windows Server and VMware.
- Extensive knowledge with HP blade servers, Microsoft tools and anti-virus software.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Approved background and drug screen is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of IBM MQ software, NETAPP disk storage, SAN or iSCSI storage
- Knowledge of Vormetric encryption appliances
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
Working conditions consist of a normal office environment. Work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive use of a computer and involves sitting for periods of approximately four hours. Work may require occasional standing, walking, kneeling, and reaching. Must be able to lift10 pounds occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently. Requires visual acuity and dexterity to view, prepare, and manipulate documents and office equipment including personal computers. Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers.
