Job Description

Maricopa County Correctional Health Services provides evidence-based, medically necessary medical treatment to patients in the Maricopa County Jails so that they can proceed through the judicial system.

Correctional Nursing is hands-on, patient focused nursing that challenges your knowledge, critical thinking and assessment skills to the fullest. The major emphasis of nursing in a correctional setting is the provision of primary care requiring the skills and characteristics of community health, occupational health, ambulatory care, emergency care and school nursing blended in a single role. Registered nurses working in a corrections setting must demonstrate the essence of nursing in a practice setting and work environment that does not have health care as its primary mission. Providing health education is part of every patient encounter.

Health clinics are located inside the 6 Maricopa County jails in a safe and secure working environment provided by the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office.

Valid unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse legally able to practice in the state of Arizona. Preferred two years’ experience as a registered nurse in Med/Surge, ER or Urgent care and in a Psychiatric setting.

Must be able to work inside a jail. A Background Check completion is required.

Skills & Responsibilities
