Parent Aide Specialist
Job Description
The Parent Aide Specialist in the Parent Aide Program provides services which enhance the parenting skills and abilities of the parents and
caregivers of children involved with the DES system. This position also provides transportation and supervised visit services to families at the request of CPS case managers. May require court testimony.
- Provides parenting skills in a culturally appropriate manner.
- Provides education and training in activities related to home management, discipline techniques, communication skills, and other skill areas as determined appropriate.
- Supervises visits between children and their parents and/or others deemed appropriate at the request of the DES case manager.
- Provides or arranges for transportation for children and family members as outlined in the case plan.
- Informs supervisor and all appropriate community contacts of reportable incidents pursuant to federal, state, and local standards for reporting abuse and neglect.
- Completes all weekly documentation and monthly reports according to program requirements regarding style, content, and deadlines for submission.
- Provides documentation of all contact between parties pertinent to the case, including phone calls, emails, face to face visits, and other forms of communication as applicable.
- Respond to all subpoenas and requests for information by DES and the Attorney General’s Office in a timely manner.
- Attend court hearings to provide information regarding cases as required.
- Assists in distribution, collection, and reporting of satisfaction surveys pursuant to contract requirements.
- Reports incidents of abuse and neglect according to federal, state, and local standards.
- Participates in Quality Improvement activities in the agency as requested.
- Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
- Demonstrates understanding of and actively promotes ResCare mission and vision.

Skills & Responsibilities
Must have the ability to interact with troubled families in a supportive, professional manner. Minimum age requirement is 21 years. Abilityto effectively and professionally communicate (verbal and written) with all levels of personnel internal and external to the company. Capableof working responsibly with highly confidential information and of maintaining composure under duress. Ability to multi-task and demonstrate good organizational skills. Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team. Working knowledge of computers and software, including Word, Excel, e-mail, and other usual and customary office programs. Must meet all agency requirements for pre-employment as required by ResCare and/or state regulations. Evening and weekend work hours are required.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma/GED and at least one year of experience in social services or a related field required. Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, or related field preferred, and may substitute for experience. Competency based Parent Aide-specific training may substitute for experience as appropriate.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid driver’s license from state of residence with a satisfactory driving record as defined by ResCare’s vehicle policy and/or liabilityinsurance carrier. Must have reliable, clean transportation (vehicle must be able to carry a minimum of three passengers) which has working air conditioning and valid insurance. Must have fingerprint clearance card. Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification prior to hire. Must complete CPS training as required.
