Overall Purpose

This position protects the safety and security of employees, guests, the facility, and proprietary assets from physical security threats.

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Greets visitors, determines nature of business, and directs them to appropriate office/person and notifies the appropriate person of the visitor’s arrival.
  • Escorts individuals who have not been screened for standard access into the Early Warning offices.
  • Monitors security systems, including CCTV, fire and security alarms, and access control hardware.
  • Watches for and reports irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; and contacts emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as appropriate according to established guidelines.
  • Issues, updates, and revokes employee access badges.
  • Takes immediate action as appropriate to secure the premises and defuse situations that present a safety or security risk. This may include approaching suspicious persons, searching items on company premises, confronting and detaining violators until law enforcement arrives, and other measures to ensure a safe workplace.
  • Patrols assigned site on foot or in vehicle; checks for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, mechanical problems, and unauthorized persons.
  • Completes timely documentation of security incidents and updates as appropriate according to established procedures.
  • Complies with all security policies and procedures, to ensure that the highest level of system and data confidentiality, integrity and availability is maintained.

Skills & Responsibilities

Required Experience

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum two years of security experience.
  • Working knowledge of security systems including alarms and video monitoring systems.
  • Must demonstrate good judgment, follow verbal and written instructions, and comply with established policies and procedures.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact effectively with others and maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others and maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/First-Aid certification and provide assistance in medical emergencies.
  • Ability to certify as a Certified Protection Officer (CPO) within one year.
  • Experience with computers such as MS Office and general ability to use the badge system application.
  • Shifts may include some weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Approved background and drug screen is required.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
  • Arizona Guard Card with baton, pepper spray and hand cuff certification

 

Physical Requirements

Working conditions consist of a normal office environment. Frequent sitting, standing and walking, which may be required for long periods of time, and may involve climbing stairs and walking inclines and on uneven terrain. Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. Requires visual acuity and dexterity to view, prepare, and manipulate documents and office equipment including personal computers.  Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers. On occasion may be required to perform stressful and physical activity. May be exposed to inclement weather or be required to work in environments or under conditions that require the use of protective gear and devices and/or awareness of personal safety and safety of others.
