Description:

For this internship, you will be serving primarily under the umbrella of our Healthy Local Foods Initiatives, which operate under the Local First Arizona Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit. As with most of the Local First Arizona internships, this one provides the opportunity to expand personal networks of business professionals, provides community outreach experience, writing and publishing credit, and exposure to economic systems.

The focus of this position is event assistance and project coordination. Under the immediate supervision of the Director of Food Initiatives, the Local Food Event Intern will be tasked with event projects and assignments--of various sizes and types--for the purposes of fundraising, education, and exposure of both the Local First Arizona Foundation as well as the organization and businesses they feature.

Depending on the needs of the events that he/she will be involved in, the Local Food Event Intern can expect to be involved in a variety of events, with supervised leadership over one particular component of one event depending on the intern’s external time commitments. Overall, the intern can expect to:

-Coordinate and plan detail-oriented projects as related to various events of differing sizes, including the Farmer + Chef -Connection, Devour Culinary Classic, Food Producer Education Series, Food and Farm Finance Forum, and Certified Local Fall Festival
-Conduct research projects and create surveys to help with target marketing and event follow-up
-Consistently work with team to evaluate for sponsor obligations and any responsibilities needing completed due to possible grant fulfillment
-Create and implement a marketing plan for assigned event project that coincides with overall LFA event plan that reaches any personal networks.
-Contribute a minimum of three relevant blog posts to the applicable Local First Arizona blog platform promoting or recapping event details
-Contribute to the design or edits of in-house print or online marketing materials for the events
-Develop written copy to promote event for further use by communications team and event partner
-Options to table at Local First Arizona external events, including monthly mixers, farmers markets, annual events, and more

Required:
-Basic understanding of or passion for local purchasing and its influence on global sustainability
-A passion for the farming, food production, and independent dining scene in Arizona
-Basic experience in event planning
-Experience with social media platforms
-Some experience with copywriting and blog writing
-Strong verbal communication and written skills
-Ability to process and implement creative feedback
-Reliable transportation at least twice per week
-Ability to be highly organized and efficient
-Self-motivation and accountability
-Time management skills

Preferred, but not necessary:
-Leadership role in event planning process of any size
-Knowledge of basic design principles & composition
-Experience working with Wordpress and/or Squarespace
-Experience in the non-profit sector
-Basic graphic design skills a plus (familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop & InDesign)
-Ability to translate copy into Spanish a plus

Total hours: 125

Hours & Compensation: The intern will work approximately 11-15 hours per week for the Summer Semester. Typically this comes out to approximately 125 total hours for the semester (may vary based on student’s internship requirements). The intern will establish at least two regular office days per week, and when fully trained may work remotely to complete projects. This is an unpaid internship with many professional development opportunities. Upon satisfactory completion of the internship, the intern will receive a letter of recommendation and course credit, if applicable.

Length of Term: Internship program is 1 semester long, with opportunity for second semester upon satisfactory completion of internship.
