he Phoenix Biomedical Campus (PBC) is a 30-acre, urban medical and bioscience campus with more than 1.7 million square-feet of biomedical-related research, academic, and clinical facilities with plans for more than 6 million square-feet at build out. This position’s primary focus will be to assist in maintaining the safety and security of students, staff, faculty, visitors and general safekeeping of the facilities.

Due to the nature of our educational environment and commitment to the safety of campus, this position will be expected to work evenings and weekends.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follows established procedures and guidelines to maintain the safety and security of the university’s employees, students, visitors, and property.
  • Works along side experience Security Guard during training.
  • Inspects grounds and premises according to established schedules personally and/or with electronic surveillance equipment.
  • Reports intruders or incidents to central security control or police.
  • Responds to emergency calls.
  • Patrol assigned areas of campus on foot, checking for fires, vandalism, maintenance issues, suspicious activity, and persons or safety/fire hazards.  
  • Investigate and/or report hazards and unusual or suspicious circumstances to local law enforcement or campus police unit for correction or follow-up actions; maintain contact with campus police.
  • Inspects grounds and premises according to established schedules personally and/or with electronic surveillance equipment.
  • Reports intruders or incidents to central security control or police.
  • Responds to emergency calls, works with local law enforcement as necessary.  Complete detailed reports following the incident/interactions.
  • Serves as liaison between campus and the Planning and Operations Department.
  • Greet and welcome incoming visitors to Campus. Serve as  concierge for the Campus and be able to communicate professionally and concisely at desk and on patrol. Provide information in a professional courteous manner while building a rapport with University Staff, Faculty, Students and Visitors.
  • Other duties as assigned, to include data entry while posted at a desk.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently lifts and carries up to 45 pounds. (i.e. 5-gallon water jug).
  • Occasionally lifts and carries up to 80 pounds (i.e. bag of concrete).
  • Pushes and/or pulls (appliances) using appliance dolly up to 200 pounds.
  • Moves objects from one floor to another.
  • Frequently bends/stoops, climbs stairs, kneels, balances, reaches above shoulder height, walks, and twists.
  • Has normal range of vision, hearing and speech.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.

  • Good communication, including written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Ability to problem-solve and make independent decisions.
  • Committed and reliable.
