Description:
Paid Employees in the shelter and intake are responsible for caring for the felines (mature and kittens) one on one and report any physical and behavioral changes to your supervisor.
Duties: (Not limited to)
1) Your supervisor will inform you of your duties in assigned area(s)
2) Cleaning and changing cages, provide fresh food and water
3) Clean cat boxes and change them if soiled
4) Provide companionship with felines while working with them
5) If applicable, maintaining records on cat cages if special feedinges or medications are required.
6) Clipping claws
7) Ensuring food, litter, etc are stocked for the next shift
8) Laundry (folding and putting away)
9) Sweeping and mopping floors
10) Dishwashing cat bowls/dishes (by hand if necessary)
11) Report cat scratches/bites to supervisor immediately and clean wounds as described in bite policy
12) Isolation areas are for trained personnel only. Cleaning and feline care are separate training. If your supervisor is in an isolation area you are to knock and obtain their attention. They will come to you. Never under any reason should you enter and isolation area.
13) When moving cats/kittens in carriers, be sure cage doors are latched properly and the bolts holding carrier together are secured
14) When a cat or Kitten is transferred, the cages are cleaned with a 1:10 bleach solution
15) If you are ill or late, call manager by 8pm the night before if possible, or by 7am day of shift
16) Ensuring all felines have collars (unless medical condition overrides) and check for tightness. If feral or semi feral, have your supervisor assist you
17) Brush off cat perches and change linens as needed
18) Treat volunteers with respect
19) Report any and all changes in cats/kittens to your supervisor
20) Answering phones as directed by supervisor
21) Socialize with public (adoptions)
22) Before leaving for the day, double check all cats have food and water (unless NPO for surgery)
Requirements:
Must be legally elligable to work in the US
Must have reliable transportation
Must be able to lift 40lbs (cat litter)
1-2 years shelter experience a plus
