5 phrases you should never say in a job interview

usa_today_01_logo_detailHave you ever caught yourself leaving a job interview thinking you just nailed it?  Maybe you actually didn’t.  LocalWork.com CEO, Ryan Naylor shares his opinion on one phrase you should never say in a job interview.

“OK, BYE!”

By the end of your interview you’re ready to leave, but it’s a mistake to cap your meeting with a simple “goodbye” before asking about next steps.

“A lot of times we don’t want to come across as pushy or overzealous so we just leave in order to avoid an awkward moment,” says Ryan Naylor, founder and president of LocalWork.com, an online hiring solution based in Phoenix. “We just walk away and assume we’ll hear back from them. The reality is recruiters want to see some work ethic.”

Say this instead: Naylor says, “A great way to end an interview is to say ‘It’s been wonderful getting to know you and your company. What are the next steps I can expect?’ or ‘When will you be letting your candidates know?’ ”
