Things To Remember Before Your Move

Return any library books and rented moves to your local stores. Have your address changed on all bank, gym, credit card, and other accounts. Have any prescriptions transferred to a drug store near your new location. Defrost your refrigerator at least 24 hours ahead of time. Sign up for power services at your new location. Mark which boxes you will take directly with you. Pack and label a box of items that you will need immediately upon arrival at your new home. Disassemble your computer and backup all computer files on a separate hard drive.

• Plan how you will pack. Pack items first that you don’t use often.
• Start packing as soon as you find out you’re moving.
• Never pack flammable items or non-allowable items.
• Use generous amounts of paper inside the carton on the top and bottom to provide good cushion.
• List contents and room on the outside of the carton.
• Clearly mark “Fragile” on the outside of cartons.
• Use clean newsprint paper. Old newspapers may work, but use them carefully because the ink may rub off onto your items. Clean “newsprint” paper is available from your local agent.
• Separate breakables and non-breakables.
• Pack all cartons tightly. Use portable closets to keep things simple.
• Use professional packing tape. Masking tape isn’t strong enough to support fully packed cartons. Packing tape is available from your local agent.

What to Know First When Getting Ready For The Big Move

Who can't use some moving tips when they're packing up their whole life for a new home? If you're among thousands of people who have picked up and moved their family to a new home or a new community, you have fresh memories of some of the ups and downs or thrills or frustrations of moving.

Drawing from personal experience, I know there are lots of ways to help make your household move easier and more smooth. Before forgetting about it, I would also make sure to add a home warranty to you new home that you are moving to.  You don't want anything to go terribly wrong on your first day moving into your new home

Have plenty of supplies. Don't make me say this twice-- you'll need LOTS of boxes--probably more boxes than you think, and having enough boxes will make your life easier! (If you buy your boxes from a moving company, you can always return unused boxes for a refund. If you got them free from the grocery, just toss any leftovers.) Have about 10 boxes set aside to use for last minute items on moving day, such as bedding, clothing, and cleaning supplies. You'll need strong plastic packing tape to close up the boxes securely. Find some flannel sheets you can use.  These come in hany when looking for something to cover up wood or couches in the moving truck.Use unprinted newsprint (newspaper can stain your items) or packing paper or bubble wrap to wrap and cushion household good. Again, you'll need lots more supplies than you think, so get extra so the packing can go smoothly. Return any unused supplies after the truck is packed.

If you are moving and buying a new home.  Take your time to find Mortgage Information.  Most home owners will jump to their bank to apply.  From personal experience, mortgage companies are going to give you the best deal.  They are usually third party companies that can buy down rates to make sure you get the best rate possible. 

Should We Hire Someone To Pack?

• This can be the most expensive method of using a moving company due to the amount of time involved. Most of them will offer you a free estimate that allows you to find out what the cost will be. The amount of items you have, how far it is to where you are moving, and the amount of materials involved can all be factored into the final cost.
• Many people are fine with taking care of all the aspects of moving on their own. The problem though is that it is going to take them too many trips to get all of the materials moved. If it is a long journey then it can be impossible to make frequent trips to get all of it. Some moving companies will offer you a trailer that they bring to your home. Then you pack your items and load it all up.

Things To Remember When Looking For Movers

• Remember, cheap moving companies are not the same thing as low quality moving companies. There are plenty of moving scams in operation out there, and you should be well aware of how these scams operate before you fall into one of their traps. When looking for the right company to hire, make sure that you call around and get quotes from more than one or two prospective companies. Look at the normal rates that companies charge for moving and red flag any that come in unnaturally low. These companies are probably going to hike up the price on the other end of the move if they bring your things to you at all.
